Charles E. ‘Chick’ Moyer (founder of Heritage Bank) purchased the Stromsburg Bank from Elmer Nordlund, along with 50% of the Nordlund-Johnson Insurance Agency in May of 1958. Chick became President of the bank, and Warren E. Johnson assumed the role of Executive Vice President and loan officer at Stromsburg. Chick spent several days in Stromsburg each week assisting Warren with credit decisions. Warren retired from the bank in 1986 as President, and became Chairman of the Board, remaining a close friend and confidant to the local management teams that have followed. Our dear friends Warren and Betty Johnson passed away in 2016 and 2022, respectively. The Johnson family continues their ownership interest in Heritage Group Inc. to this day. The insurance agency is now known as Heritage Insurance. Chick passed in 2014, but the bank is still owned and operated by the Moyer family and their business partners. It is interesting to note that Stromsburg was the second banking location in what has grown into a $600 million dollar community bank in 13 Nebraska communities.

Management of the bank has transitioned to the third generation now, with Cam Moyer serving as the bank’s CEO; his office is in Hastings. Part of the new management group is Nic Dowling, Vice President, who manages the Stromsburg loan portfolio now. Nic joined Heritage in 2019 and is known for his lending expertise and positive working relationships with his borrowers. The Stromsburg Chamber Board is made up of volunteers. They represent area businessees or hold Family Memberships and meet monthly. Board members may serve two consecutive, three year terms.
