2022- Stromsburg's Sesquicentennial Celebration
Stromsburg celebrates 150 years in 2022! We have some great plans coming together. Join us as we honor those who founded our community or contributed to it's story over the last 150 years. This will be updated as details become available, check back often! Dates or plans may change as necessary.
Weekly Trivia in the Polk Co. Newspaper- Beginning in January, locals may test their knowledge of Stromsburg history by submitting their answer to the weekly question printed in the paper. From the correct entries, one winner will be chosen each week and announced in the next week's paper. Looking for sponsors! To play- watch for the question of the week in the Polk Co. News, submit your answers to the box located inside Economy Hometown Market
Valborgs Natt, April 30th- Celebrate the arrival of spring with a traditional evening bonfire (the fire may not be possible unless we get some rain!), Swedish treats, contests and prizes! A family event! Get your team together for a "Swedish Rope Tug", enter the Rye bread baking contest or test your Swedish speaking skills. FInd registration forms for the Rope Tug and Rye bread baking contest at Economy Hometown Market in Stromsburg. Tickets for the Swedish Dinner will be available here first!
A Swedish Dinner and Silent Auction take place on May 21st at the Viking Center. Tickets are limited and only sold locally! $75 each. Enjoy a meal prepared by Swedish Chef, Patrick Lindberg! A silent auction will take place prior to the meal. Funds raised will support Sesquicentennial activities and we hope to be able to support a community project as well. Tickets go on sale first during the Valborgs Natt event on April 30th. If not sold out, they will be available at local businesses until gone.
Swedish Midsommar Festival- We're mixing in some fantastic events to our annual weekend of festivities- every anniversary needs cake, games, more historical fun facts, photos and story telling. June 17th- 19th
Swedish Steel is back for the 150th Celebration! Enjoy art, food trucks and more! Sept. 3rd
Founder's Day- Scheduled for Sept. 4th, this is a community day with a pot-luck picnic in the square, games, story telling, ice cream, a community photo to be taken and more. Cemetery Stories takes place on this day, in honor of some very important people in our community's history.
